Process
First, I created a list of ideas I could include that were based on the theme of acceptance, a personal experience, and an artist. This included some research on symbolism.
- Symbolism of a Butterfly http://www.whats-your-sign.com/butterfly-animal-symbolism.html - Symbolism of a Jellyfish http://www.shamanicjourney.com/jellyfish-power-animal-symbol-of-acceptance-and-faith Third, before I started etching, I taped my sketch onto the back of the plastic plate. The tool I used was a inscriber, it was very hard to control, I had to use to hands to manage it. Within my piece are small scratching from losing control of the inscriber.

Second, I created a few sketches I could choose from.
Lastly, I repeated the printing process multiple times. Sometimes my paper wasn't dry enough, and other times I put either too little or too much ink on the plastic plate.

Meaning Behind My Piece
"Acceptance" is a dry point piece that focuses on a theme of acceptance, a personal experience, and artist inspiration. Growing up we are surrounded by a society full of judgment and negative influences. I wanted to create a piece that shows a girl wanting to be accepted by society, yet doesn't want to follow the crowd and lose her beliefs. All attention is on the nude girl, which is this piece represents the power of society, as well as what society believes a female body should look like. The stringy hair represent jellyfish legs, while the groups of it represent people influenced by society. Jellyfish represent acceptance and faith but they also are unable to move on their own, they depend on ocean currents. In my piece people are unable to be their own person because they are depending on society to form them to become accepted. The stringy hair with a butterfly attached at the end is who I want to be. Although I want to be accepted by others and society, I rather keep my faith transforming into something unique rather than what's seen as beautiful.
Artist Inspiration
My artist Inspiration comes from Gustav Vigeland, who is a Norwegian sculptor. Vigeland never put titles on his work, only little descriptions to leave them open for interpretation. This was a bronze made in 1930.

Reflection
Throughout this project I have faced many difficulties, one including my idea. I wish I had done more research and planning before etching the plastic plate. Which was another one of my difficulties, it was hard to control the inscriber, I should have spent more time on etching rather than trying to rush through. Overall, I am happy with the outcome of the body of the female, but the hair and butterfly needs a lot of work. I plan I remaking this piece in the future.
