Process
Artist/Inspiration: I was interested in the fauvist movement and ways to express feelings through color. While researching the theme I came across Chris Silver who uses color to express inner feelings. I could relate to his drawing "Sick and Tired" so I wanted to try to recreate it.
Intentions: My intention was to visually show what stress looks like, and how it feels. I used harsh strokes of color similar to Silver, to try and express the same effect he does within all his pieces.
Experience: I never created a arylic painting inspired by the fauvism movement, because I like when my work looks clean; however, I decided to give it a try. When I saw Silver's piece I could see all the emotion and feelings within the painting, and I related to what he was expressing in the drawing. My experience to this peice is a common feeling I've had because of many factors.

Meaning Behing Piece
This piece is very self explanatory, I wanted to show what stress feels like. It is very messy and hectic, which I showed by applying harsh strokes of color. It is also hard to focus and see things clearly, which is why the girl is hidden within the mess. Lately, I have been very overwhelmed with school, work, and personal issues, so this piece is some what of a self-portrait that shows my inner feelings.
Artist Inspiration
Chris Silver is a 21 year old artist from United Kingdom currently studying painting and printmaking at the Glasgow School of Art. His work revolves around the Fauvism movement and expressing the value of colors. "I try to convey inner anxieties onto the canvas, to create something intense and expressive." - Silver
This drawing created from acrylic inks is named "Sick and Tired" I wanted to recreate this piece because my life has been very stressful and I felt like I could relate to the drawing. Website: https://www.saatchiart.com/chrissilver |
Reflection
I had a very good vision before making this piece. However, when I was applying all the harsh strokes or color it didn't seem to come out the way I expected, it looked too messy. Then I realized that's what stress is, a ugly mess, so I finished splashing paint all over the canvas. Once I added features of the girl, the whole piece came together, and even though it wasn't my exact vision, it turned out to be one of my favorite pieces. If I were to do this piece again I would make it larger so I can apply more paint and be more messy with it. Also, I would make it a self-portrait and include my face rather than a random girl, to create deeper emotion within my piece.
ACT Reflection
1) Chris Silver shows inner feelings by expressing the values of color. Although, I used a different medium than Silver I tried to recreate that same idea using acrylic paint rather than ink. I also attempted to apply the same lines and emotion it created.
2) My overall approach was to show a inner feeling by using harsh lines of color, which also shows what this emotion feels like.
3) Many people have the same feelings, but people tend to hide the ugly ones inside. This piece it meant to influence people to just let go and not let things build up and blur reality.
4) The general theme of this piece is emotion, and what it would look l like visually. Stress is an extremely common feeling that many people face everyday.
5) I noticed that inner feelings are usually very messy and ugly, and the more they're stuck inside someone the more they'll eat away at the person.
