Urban Landscape
Title: Two Sided
Medium: Wood Sculpture Size: 30.5 cm x 30.5 cm x 31 cm 12 April 2016 |
Exhibition Text
This architectural model was created from an inspiration of the Endless Stair created by dRMM. The goal was to create an urban landscape, using wood, cardboard, string, and a light source which illuminated parts of the structure; similar to the Endless Stair structure. All aspects were made or found. |
Process
First, I created multiple sketches of the way I wanted to cut my base board, allowing light to shine through from underneath it. I wanted to make sure each piece I placed upon the board would be illuminated.
|
Next, I arranged the wood pieces to inspire a design for my final product.
|
It was difficult to find a board so my dad constructed one, I drew my design on it and he cut it with a table saw. Next, I placed the wood pieces on the board to construct a design and had to cut more with a hand saw. Before I glued the pieces down I taped them together and placed it upon a light to see if I liked the placement. Then, I used wood glue to apply it to the base.
Artistic Inspiration
Reflection
I enjoyed created this piece because it was new medium to me. However, it was difficult to cut some wood pieces since I had to do it with a hand saw. I believe I did well organizing my piece; but, if I were to do this again I would create more lines within the base board because one side was more lit up then the other.
